An 85-year-old Long Island woman who claims she was strip-searched at Kennedy Airport says she accepts a TSA apology but may sue the agency anyway.
Federal Transportation Security Administration officials said Sunday that they reached out to Lenore Zimmerman and continue to investigate her complaint.
But the agency denied that its agents strip-searched the Long Beach grandma.
“TSA contacted the passenger to apologize that she feels she had an unpleasant screening experience; however, TSA does not include strip searches in its protocols and a strip search did not occur in this case,” the agency said in a statement.
Reached Sunday at her winter home in Florida, Zimmerman said the TSA was full of bull.
“I say they’re lying,” she said. “They’re doing it to protect their butts.”
She also said she doesn’t recall the TSA calling her.
“I really don’t remember if they called to apologize,” said Zimmerman, explaining that she’s been so upset she’s been taking sleeping pills.
But she does remember the humiliating security screening she says she endured Tuesday from two female TSA agents in a private room — a search that left her with a bloody gash on her right leg.
Asked if she accepts the TSA apology, she said, “Yes. I may sue them anyway because it was a very traumatic experience.”
