New York, NY - Old phone booths in Manhattan’s Union Square are getting a modern makeover. Smart screens there display real-time local-based services, community information, current events and entertainment listings.

It’s called City24/7, which also is the name of a media and content company.

NYC: New Taxi Fare Hike Goes Into Effect Today

Starting today, taxi drivers in the city can begin collecting the 17 percent fare increase approved by the Taxi and Limousine Commission back in July. The base fare stays $2.50, but passengers will now be charged 50 cents every fifth of a mile, not 40.

Orthodox Jewish Children Subjected to Anti-Semitic Taunts Outside Berlin School

Charlottenburg, Germany - On Monday morning, 13 children in grades 7, 8, and 9 who attend the Chabad School in Berlin- Charlottenburg were subjected to anti-Semitic taunts such as “Are you Jewish?” and were photographed by a group of several unidentified “Southern” youths believed to be Muslims. One of the perpetrators also spat on the ground in front of the students, Juedische-Allgemeine reports (http://bit.ly/OUES8A), but ran away when a teacher intervened. The school was founded in 2005.

According to a Yediot Achronot report, the White House has sent messages to Iran via two European nations that for as long as Tehran refrains from attacking American bases in the Persian Gulf, the USA will not become involved in an Israeli military strike in Iran. The report states the White House’s indirect message was sent to Iran in the hope of persuading Tehran to stay clear of American bases and naval vessels in the region.
